Anxiety is real. One moment you are watching a tv show and next thing you know, your heart rate speeds up, you’re sweating, and you can’t think straight. You don’t understand why you are feeling this way, but you are.
Anxiety can look different for lots of different people. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, “Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.”
There are many treatments for anxiety, and it can take a while for you to find the right one for you. One possible treatment for anxiety is cannabidiol, also known as CBD. CBD is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940's. While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.”
“A lot of people take prescription medications for anxiety. They work for some people, but they don't work for others. They can take six to eight weeks to have an effect and they have drug interactions and side effects,” says Jeff Dunn, a pharmacist and co-founder of Farmer and Chemist. “They're good agents, but there are some other alternatives that should be considered and CBD is one of them.”
There is ongoing research about CBD and anxiety. A study in 2015 titled, Cannabidiol as a Potential Treatment for Anxiety Disorders, found that CBD oil is a promising treatment for numerous forms of anxiety, including social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
As you take the right dosage of CBD to treat anxiety, you might notice a subtle change after a few days. Doug Burgoyne, a pharmacist and co-founder of Farmer and Chemist said, “It's not that you'd notice all of a sudden there's this relief feeling. Instead, it's the lack of anxiety after you've used the product a couple of times. CBD gives folks the ability to handle stress and to be able to deal with it pretty quickly”
If you decide to use CBD, It’s important to buy CBD that has been State tested and approved. At Farmer and Chemist, every batch of products are tested at three stages. These include:
- The raw plant
- Extracted ingredients
- Final product level.
This commitment to scientific rigor ensures that the product you are taking is exactly what the Certificate of Analysis says it is. You can check the QR code on each package to see what is in your exact product.
So now you can return to your normal life that is free of anxiety. Go ahead and hop in front of the tv, after you take your CBD, and kiss your anxiety goodbye.
