CBD 101

Some Introductory Information About CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940's. It is one of 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants and accounts for up to 40% of the plant's extract in the industrial hemp varieties. In 2018, clinical research on cannabidiol included preliminary studies of anxiety, cognition, movement disorders, and pain.

While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

Some CBD manufacturers have come under government scrutiny for wild, indefensible claims, such that CBD is a cure-all for cancer, which it is not. More research is needed but CBD has indications to be effective and an option for managing anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain.

Word to the Wise- because CBD is mostly available as an unregulated supplement, it’s difficult to know exactly what you are getting. This is why Farmer and Chemist exists. We are able to trace all of our products back to the source plants it was derived from. The chemist in our name stands for our partnership with scientists that through extraordinary effort assure that the concentrates are pure, free from pesticides and metals and have exact known quantities of cannabinoids to deliver the right dose every time. If you decide to try CBD, talk with your doctor — and our pharmacists to get you the right product for the right need.
