How Long Does CBD Take To Work?

Everyone has heard the saying “patience is a virtue.” This old adage has been around longer than you may think (the Romans said “maxima enim, patientia virtus,” meaning “patience is the greatest virtue”) and illuminates one of the most basic human beliefs—the belief that things are often better when you wait.

The same rings true for CBD. Like many medications, cannabidiol (CBD) needs to be absorbed into the body before there is any noticeable effect. Depending on your method of consumption, this can take anywhere from thirty minutes to six hours.

When taking CBD, however, there’s more to the waiting game than just absorption. To notice any lasting effects, your body needs about 2-3 days of exposure to the cannabinoids found in CBD. As your body gets used to the additional cannabinoids now running through its endocannabinoid system, the effects of CBD will be more and more noticeable.

How long does edible CBD take to work?

There are many ways to take CBD, and ingestion is one of the most convenient. Gummies and soft gels offer a hassle-free and easy way to get your daily dose of CBD. But how long does ingested CBD take to work?

Typically, it takes about 60 to 90 minutes to feel the full effects. Due to the digestion process and the time it takes for CBD to reach your liver, it takes a bit longer for the cannabinoids to enter your bloodstream when swallowed.

While edible CBD products may take longer to produce an effect, the overall effect will stick around for longer than other methods. This can be anywhere from 6 to 8 hours, depending on your specific body chemistry and dosage.

How long does sublingual CBD take to work?

Sublingual CBD refers to tinctures and oils that rest below your tongue for a brief period of time—about thirty seconds to a minute. When CBD is taken sublingually, the drops of tincture are dissolved and diffused into your bloodstream through tissues found beneath your tongue.

This is often the quickest and most effective way to consume CBD. Effects are felt within 30 minutes, and will be bolstered as soon as any remaining tincture reaches your liver, about two hours later.

Steady Going and Lickety Split are Farmer & Chemist’s options for sublingual CBD. They are the perfect solution to a plethora of problems, including anxiety, chronic pain, and insomnia.

How long does topical CBD take to work?

In addition to our wide array of edible CBD products, Farmer & Chemist features a few topical CBD options. The effects of topical CBD products are noticeable immediately after application, and will lasat anywhere from 12-24 hours.

When applied directly to the skin, topical CBD is absorbed by cannabinoid receptors found at the place of application. These newly added cannabinoids then interact with the body’s own endocannabinoid system to modulate pain and inflammatory response at the inflicted area.

If you’re in the market for topical CBD products, Farmer & Chemist has you covered. Our It’s the Balm is a broad spectrum, CBD-infused balm that helps soothe pain and relieve aching muscles and joints. If the balm isn’t enough for you, check out Problem Salved. With a higher concentration of CBD and a touch of THC (not enough to cause any ill-effects, just enough to aid in absorption and effectiveness), Problem Salved is the solution to a plethora of problems.
